Body Design and Build

The Nokia G22 is a modern, sleek handset with an ergonomic design and attractive aesthetics. Dimensions phone weighs 196.2 grams and has dimensions of 165 x 76.2 x 8.5 mm. The body of the phone is made of recycled plastic with a two-tone color and a high-gloss finish. It also has a metal camera base and a fingerprint scanner on the side. The phone is dust and splash-resistant with an IP52 rating. Its QuickFix user-reparable design means you can easily replace the battery, screen, or back cover by yourself. Nokia G22 is available at Phoneplace Kenya in Lagoon Blue, Meteor Gray, and So Peach colors.

Display

It features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has a brightness of 500 nits.  Low display resolution is compensated for by an above-average brightness option, which makes lots of sense. The display supports HDR10 and has a 20:9 aspect ratio, providing thin bezels and a large area for optimal viewing. The display has a waterdrop notch for the front camera and a thin bezel at the bottom. Arguably, the display quality is decent for the price range, but not very sharp or vibrant compared to higher-end phones such as Vivo V30 5G, Redmi 12, OR Oppo Reno11. Notably, the Nokia G22’s display also has a QuickFix user-reparable design, which means that you can easily replace the screen by yourself if it gets damaged.

Nokia G22 Camera set-up

It has a triple camera setup on the back, with a 50 MP main lens, a 2 MP macro lens, and a 2 MP depth lens. The front camera is an 8 MP selfie lens. The camera app has various modes and features, such as night mode, portrait mode, HDR, AI scene detection, panorama, time-lapse, slow motion, beauty mode, and watermark. You can also adjust the flash, timer, grid, aspect ratio, and resolution of the camera. Notably, the handset records decent 1080p videos, which you can share with family and friends, or store in the massive phone storage for future reference.

To take a photo, tap Camera, take aim and focus, and tap the shutter button. Seamlessly switch to the video recording mode by tapping the Video icon, tapping Adjust to start recording, and tapping the stop button to stop recording. To go back to camera mode, tap simply Photo. For access to the camera settings, tap the gear icon on the top left corner of the camera app.

Nokia G22 runs on Android 12, the latest version of the operating system that offers improved performance, security, and privacy features.

Processor

The phone is powered by the Unisoc T606 chipset, which is a 12 nm octa-core processor with two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. The graphics are handled by the Mali-G57 MP1 GPU, which supports HDR10 and 90 Hz display. Both CPU and GPU on the Nokia G22 offer optimal experience, handling pretty well multi-tasking and games with low to mid-level settings.

Storage

It has 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64, 128, or 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The storage can be expanded via a microSD card slot that uses a shared SIM slot. These options are quite decent, besides the storage expansion option which makes it a great bargain for versatility, adaptability, price, and functionality.

Nokia G22 Connectivity Options and Communications Support

Network

The handset supports both wired and wireless connectivity. It can connect to 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, depending on the availability and compatibility of the SIM card and the carrier. The device supports single and dual SIM standby, which means that both SIM cards are active and can receive calls or messages, but only one can be used at a time.

Wi-Fi

Nokia G22 can connect to Wi-Fi networks that use the a, b, g, n, n 5GHz, or ac standards, and support dual-band, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi direct, and Wi-Fi display features. You can use the Wi-Fi option to access the internet, share files, or cast your screen to a compatible device. Moreover, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band is an upgrade, enabling fast, safe connectivity and effective web browsing.

Bluetooth

The phone has Bluetooth 5.0 installed, which allows you to seamlessly pair your phone with other Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as headphones, speakers, keyboards, or smartwatches. You can use Bluetooth to stream audio, transfer data, or control your phone remotely. Alternatively, you can use the wireless connectivity option to transfer data between compatible, paired devices.

Positioning

The phone has GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo positioning systems, which help you determine your location, navigate, or use location-based services or apps. You can turn on or off the location service in the settings.

Near-field communication (NFC)

Nokia G22 has NFC (Near Field Communication), which enables you to make contactless payments, share data, or pair devices by tapping your phone on a compatible NFC tag or device.

Radio

The phone has an FM radio, which allows you to listen to local radio stations and favorite shows using a wired headset as an antenna. You can tune in to your favorite stations, save them as presets, or record the audio to listen to later as you see fit.

USB

Nokia installed a USB Type-C 2.0 port on their G22 4g model, which supports OTG (On-The-Go) feature. To extend the battery life of your Nokia G22, you may opt to:

• Mute unnecessary sounds, such as touch sounds. Tap Settings > Sound, and select which sounds to keep.
• Use wired headphones, rather than the loudspeaker.
• Set the phone screen to switch off after a short time. Tap Settings > Display > Screen timeout and select the time.
• Turn off the location service when not needed. Tap Settings > Location and toggle off Use location.
• Turn off the NFC service when not needed. Tap Settings > Connected devices and toggle off NFC.
• Adjust the screen brightness or use the adaptive brightness feature. Tap Settings > Display > Brightness level and drag the slider or toggle on Adaptive brightness.
• Close the apps that are running in the background or consuming a lot of power. Tap Settings > Battery > Battery usage and select the apps that you want to close or restrict.
• Use the battery-saver mode to limit the phone’s performance and reduce power consumption. Tap Settings > Battery > Battery saver and toggle on Turn on automatically or Turn on now.
